Position Overview:

Have you worked on a golf course grounds crew before? Have you gone to school for a formal turf education? Do you enjoy the golf course life? We would love for you to join our Course Operations Team as Second Assistant Superintendent. This is a full-time, year-round, salary position. 

This position primarily works early morning and daytime hours Monday - Friday; however, some weekend work will be required throughout the season.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate various groundskeeping equipment and power tools
  • Monitor overall health of turf, such as disease identification, soil moisture readings etc.
  • Assist in cultural work such as aerating, slicing, tining and topdressing
  • Assist in the operation of the GPS mapping tool and associated software
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides and plant protection products in the absence of the Irrigation and Spray Technician
  • Repair the irrigation system as needed
  • Plan and delegate daily duties to employees as necessary
  • Assist in training and developing employees
  • Assist in ensuring all health and safety standards are met, and items identified by the JOHSC are completed
  • Participate in and supervise course renovation projects
  • Perform mowing duties on all aspects of the golf course and property
  • Perform all other duties associated with golf course and property maintenance as needed
  • Maintain daily record-keeping and paperwork
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience on a golf course maintenance team
  • Completion of a post-secondary certification or diploma in turf or a combination of relevant experience and education
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and pest management techniques is required
  • Valid Pesticide Applicator's License is required to be maintained during employment
  • Valid Forklift Certification is required to be maintained during employment
  • Valid Basic First Aid, CPR-C and AED Certification, or equivalent, is required to be maintained during employment
  • Valid BC driver's licence is required
  • Willingness to complete a Police Information Check is required
