In 2006 Redwoods implemented the Redwoods Cares program where each year the staff selects a local Langley based charity to become the recipient of the charitable rounds initiative. Each time a staff member plays a complimentary round of golf they pay $2 which is awarded to this charity. In addition, each time a public golfer is able to golf on a complimentary basis (often a silent auction prize donated to a charity) the player is asked to donate $5. These donations are accumulated during the year and at the end of the calendar year the funds are tabulated and awarded to the charity of choice.
In 2019 we made a donation of $2,100 to Power for All Adventure Therapy Society! Power for All provides access to adventure based activities--like paddle boarding and snow shoeing--in spite of physical, cognitive, and social abilities that people may be facing. We are very excited to be able to donate to this very worthy cause operating right here in the Fraser Valley!
In 2018, we made a donation of $2,500 to the Fort Langley Elementary (FLE) School Playground Initiative! The Fort Langley Elementary School, located right down the road from Redwoods, had a playground filled with outdated and inaccessible equipment. In two phases over the course of 18 months, FLE is replacing their old equipment, a huge financial burden. The new playground will not only benefit the 300+ students at the school, but it will also be enjoyed by the community of Fort Langley for years to come. We were thrilled to have been able to be a part in this community project!
In 2017, we made a donation of $500 to O.W.L Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. Earlier in the year we came across two barn owlets that had fallen out of a nest near our maintenance facilities. O.W.L came to the rescue and took great care of the orphaned owlets for the next few months until they were ready to be released. One of the owls went to Falcon Glen Organic Farms and the other was released right here at Redwoods! We did another donation in 2017, this time with $1000 to the Langley Field Naturalists. Over the years the Langley Field Naturalists have worked with Redwoods on various environmentally related projects such as bird counts. They are a local, hardworking group that enjoys, values, and conserves our local natural areas--something we can truly support! In 2018 The Langley Field Naturalists added a Barn Owl box near our #11 green and we are excited to see our owls start using it!
