Do you love plants and working in the outdoors? The Redwoods Golf Course in Langley, BC is looking to fill the full-time, seasonal position of Head Horticulturist in our dynamic Turf Care Team starting this March!

Beautiful scenery, mature forests, and a Coastal Mountain backdrop surround this challenging 18 hole championship golf course. The Redwoods has made heavy use of perennials and native plants around the Clubhouse, wedding area and golf course landscape. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of propagating, caring for, pruning and protecting all perennial plants, annuals, small shrubs, and woody plants. They will also strive to create an exceedingly beautiful landscape for all of our valued guests to enjoy!

This is a unique opportunity for a passionate horticulturist to utilize their own design, vision, and knowledge to create a stunning landscape throughout the property of Redwoods!

 DUTIES TO INCLUDE :

• Planning and ordering plant material and tools
• Caring for numerous full and half baskets (hanging and fixed)
• Carrying out all fertility and soil maintenance needs
• Monitoring and controlling plant pests
• Performing all labour-related duties needed for the position
• Designing and implementing new flower bed ideas
• Maintaining a good standard of daily record keeping
• Keeping all work areas clean and organized
• Assisting in other duties on the golf course as needed
• Communicating with the management team to prioritize and schedule necessary work
• Maintaining a professional appearance while at work

QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS :

• Must hold a Diploma in Horticulture or the equivalent 
• Must hold a valid BC Driver’s License
• Must have a strong knowledge of West Coast Plant ID
• Must have a strong knowledge of fertilizing needs, IPM procedures, and plant protection products
• Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 40 lbs
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Must be able to communicate clearly with both management and other staff
• Must be professional and courteous to all valued guests
• Must be able and willing to safely use gas-powered trimmers, blowers and hedgers
• Must have an understanding of the golf course environment and ethics
• Having previous golf course or nursery experience is an asset
• Having a valid Pesticide Applicator’s License is an asset
• Having knowledge or proficiency in irrigation systems (repair, scheduling and maintenance) is an asset
• Having knowledge of golf maintenance and its equipment is an asset
