Redwoods Golfers Greener
A Langley golf course has been ranked second in the world for its environmental initiatives.

The golfers at The Redwoods Golf Course in Langley B.C. are on the cutting edge of greener golf. This summer golfers were asked to take part in the Green Golfer Challenge hosted by National Audubon Society.

Participation this year was astounding; said owner and operator Doug Hawley.

Redwoods Golf Course placed second overall in the international category for most pledges taken, he explained.

This is a “fantastic outcome” and a huge contribution to the nearly 15,000 pledges collected by Audubon in the three year run of the challenge, Hawley noted.

“I think it is a huge honour for a golf course in Langley to be ranked second in the world in this initiative, and the fact that it is an environmental effort makes it so much more meaningful,” he said.

“We couldn’t be happier with our golfers. I think this shows that golf will always have a positive impact on the environment, and that golfers are more than willing to do their part.”

Audubon is a non-profit organization that is a world leader in environmental initiatives and the Green Golfer Challenge is designed to make the game of golf even more eco-friendly.

Participants pledged to make green choices on the golf course by avoiding environmentally sensitive areas, keeping the course litter free, fixing ball marks and divots, and supporting true roll on the greens rather than speed.

“With this amazing willingness that the golfers have shown to play a green game, The Redwoods is excited to see continued environmental stewardship and preservation on the course,” said course superintendent Peter Szarka.

“The members of the Redwoods team and I are very proud of our golfers for taking the responsibility to make the course as beautiful and environmentally friendly as possible.”
